Value. Really, that's all we need to bring to the table. Whether we are negotiating huge deals in a boardroom or trying to get our 5 year olds to eat their vegies. If you bring more value (use value) than the perceived price the person on the other end is paying (cash value), then the deal will be a no-brainer. If value is not part of the equation then the deal goes no where. So many people try to drive such hard bargains in life, presumably to stroke their own ego or perhaps to try to show others how good they are at "taking" from people. That's living life on the extreme competitive plane. Which is fine on the sports field, but in real life it has no place. On the other hand, if we live our lives on the creative plane, creating arrangements that are good for both sides of the negotiations, giving AND taking, then value is perceived by both parties and they can both leave the table feeling successful. If you want success with all your dealings then bring value, bring value, bring value. I wonder how much better some of those we have elected into political office would fare if they followed this advice?
